Designers From Kerala And Their Onam Collection

Onam is around the corner and one of the biggest clothing hunts of the year has begun. What to wear, where to purchase your Onakodi from, how to style it and so many interconnected questions are already driving you crazy, aren’t they? This Onam, let us help you out with our fashion recommendations. This time around, we have prepared a list of designer outfits to choose from. These designers from Kerala have put their heart, soul and creative imagination to curate their Onam collection. So, c’mon, let’s make your Onam a Ponnonam!

Rouka by Sreejith Jeevan

In the brief conversation we had with Sreejith Jeevan of Rouka, we got to know some amazing insights about their Onam collection.

“Onam this year is a mixed bag for us. It is a reflection of how we live. Our work has been a response to what we see. And at the same time, it also is a sort of echoing of what craft needs at this point, especially in Kerala. What craft needs is a balance between the traditional and modern. Our motive has always been to take traditional craft into a fashionable space to ensure they’re aspirational.

That’s why Onam is a mixed bag for us,” says Sreejith.

Their kasavu sarees are handwoven by Chendamangalam weavers which is nothing but a dreamy interpretation of traditional craft. Floral sarees intricately designed with the beautiful motifs of Shankapushpam and Aparajitha flowers make their designs feel nostalgic.

Their quirky Set Mundu collections mixed with florals and stripes are also worth checking out.

Isn’t this ruffle kasavu simply glamorous?

They have a rich collection of mundu for men, ranging from classic to quirky. Contemporary stripes mixed with an element of peculiarity. Handwoven yet modern. You’ll be able to find a very interesting kara on the mundu that adds a twist to the otherwise bland Malayali menswear.

You can check out more about their collections here.

Pichakam

We loved the beautiful Nirangalude Onam collection by Pichakam. Their sarees, which do not have borders, but sport subtle designs is truly a fresh take on the Onam attire.

We were also impressed with their saree collections namely Thira and Nakshatra, both of which bring out the essence of the ocean theme in a gorgeous lavender colour palette with ruffles and belt detailing on Onam attire.

If you are looking for a traditional golden Kasavu saree, then you guys are in for a treat with their Suhana, Chanchal and Kasturi range from the Nirangalude Onam collection. We love how stylish and stunning they look.

Mohini – Shilpa Manghat

Let us admit that the concept of vegan clothing was quite new when we first heard of it. But this little fashion world of vegan clothing, run by a single-woman army, was no less than a wonder to us.

Some of the blouses and dress designs are made out of recycled materials. They also have other designs known for their pretty patterns.

Their beautiful and breezy Onathumbi dress, which is no less than a dream for all those who do not enjoy the hassle of a saree on Onam day, is just stunning.

Turmerik by Nivethitha Sanjay

Would it be a hyperbole if we say that we were truly stunned by the designs from Turmerik? Absolutely Not!

Initiated by powerloom, the designs curated by Turmerik are a result of consistent experimentations with an ultimate aim to create works that look like they are hand-painted.

Through our conversation with Nivethitha, we understood how tedious the procedures to create these little pieces of majestic beauty are. We got to know that Turmerik was the first in the clan to create designs using the powerloom methods that it uses. We couldn’t take our eyes off her Tree of life-Wisteria and Hummingbirds range.

The entire Tree of life collection is a bliss to watch. Don’t believe us? Here’s another one from the collection.

Kalaakaari

This year, the Onam designs from Kalaakaari are a beautiful blend of the modern era with traditional roots. We found the designs soft and charming. Their Hiza, Anshi and Mahira range is very enchanting. If you want to be in the spotlight this Onam, Kalaakaari’s Onam designs will help you do that.

Alka Hari

Our journey to find ethnic Anarkalis for Onam ended here. If you’re looking for a fresh yet stylish twist for your Onam makeover, Alka Hari’s collection may have a lot of takeaways for you. We found some elegant and royal designs at Alka Hari along with her other works for Onam this year.

The rich, variant and colourful ensembles from Alka Hari is surely on our list of suggestion for those who want to ditch the six-yard elegance this Onam.

It’s most likely to steal the show at your Onam celebration party.

They also have a good dhawani selection. We totally love their muted tones and neutral shades. Do check them out for customised works, this Onam.

Zorrah Designs by Sai Anil Easaw

If your fashion taste has an inclination towards block-printed sarees, then you must check out designs by Zorrah. Their artisans, who have more than 10 years of experience, work on customised blocks and their designs to generate prints. They are elegantly classy in texture with stunning prints.

All the designs are crafted by Sai herself with the assistance of her team. The prints mainly include floral designs, geometric prints and patterns like polka dots. The designs are mainly focused on the entire border lane of the saree, making it an abundant and imperial event.

Revathy Jayanbabu

Meet Vadamalli, the gorgeous Onam collection by Revathy Jayanbabu for this festive season. We were highly impressed by the wonderful variation that her label had to offer. The colour of Vadamalli is the base of the collection. All the designs are stellar and eye-catchy. We had really a hard time choosing a favourite among them.

We really appreciate how our kasavu designs got a beautiful twist in her shararas and jumpsuits. They are chic and traditional, a rare but beautiful combo to look for. A huge shoutout to all such quirky and lovely ideas for this Onam.

And also not to forget, we love the men’s collection from the Vadamalli range. One of the best we have seen so far! Don’t agree? Check them out yourself!

Neith

A complete online brand which has a lovely range of Onam collections. Let us admit the fact that we did not see many designers experimenting with Ombre colours and Kasavu designs. And that’s what we loved the most about Neith collections.

And a special mention to the lovely blouse designs and the sleeve game from the designing team. Love how adorable they look. We also noticed the beautiful floral embroidery designs with pearls all over the kasavu saree, making it look outstanding. We particularly are talking about the Mandaram range from their Onam collection.

Zoey Store

We dedicate this collection to all the expecting mothers and new moms in town who are all set to embrace motherhood and Onam in style. Their designs look like fresh dew. Lightweight and flowy ensembles for fashion enthusiasts who love to look different.

Also, their feeding and maternity range of long tunics are a bliss to watch. And the other Kurti designs are simple yet elegant pieces to check out this Onam.

Zuleiha by Shehazeen

Unexpectedly, we stumbled upon this piece of art and fashion by Shehazeen. We found some amazing fashionable clothes here. We have always been supportive of those who love to mix and match. Experiments fascinate us. And trust us, this is one such fine place for fashionistas.

Almost all the attires from the Mulla range of their Onam collection impressed us. They are different from the old traditional saree drapes and Kurti designs. We loved this fresh outlook towards the Onam attire.

The beautiful shades in the collections ranging from basic pastels and other shades of subtlety are remarkable. Their three-piece kaftan is really stylish and modern. Also, the beautiful anarkalis need a special mention on this occasion. Super excited to share this with you all!

And that’s a wrap! We hope you loved the Onam collection by these designers from Kerala as much as we did. Did we miss anyone from your list? Let us know that in the comments below. Happy Onam peeps!
