And with, *Beats and Drumroll* the ever-famous Valentine’s Day has passed. February 14th is a day awaited, dreaded, and ignored by many. Despite the category you fall into, at least once in your lifetime, this day would have made a significant impact on you (negatively or positively). Wondering how? Let me tell you!
The Realization
Scrolling through those Instagram stories filled with lovey-dovey photos, gifts, and anecdotes makes you realise one thing – All that is shown outside is not true. No couple or relationship is perfect. No one is happy 365 days in a year. And there isn’t anyone in this world who wouldn’t have thought about leaving their partner or even hating their partner at least once.
Wait, before you call me an ‘Anti-Lover’, let me clarify that all this is normal. In fact, it is very normal in a relationship. So, to all the singles and doubles out there, please realize the meaning of the ever-famous Malayalam proverb “Akkare nikkumbol ikkare pacha, ikkare nilkkumbol akkare pacha”.
The Never-ending Marketing Strategies For Valentine’s Day
More than all the ‘Made for each other’ lovers out there, there is another set of people who exploit this day – The Corporates.
From companies selling customised products to matrimonial sites offering discounts to desperate singles (Fact is checked: IITIIMShaadi offered a discount on this special day), their marketing gimmicks are overdone and how.
Makale, let’s be honest. These marketing strategies just capitalise on your emotions. Believe it or not, there’s even one subject in MBA that teaches you how to take advantage of people’s vulnerable emotions. And just like that, you get trapped in the cycle and pour out your hard-earned money on these things.
Think twice before you say YES! Ask yourself – Is the product/service you brought for Valentine’s day necessary? Do you really think you are getting a good deal with the so-called ‘Discounts’?
The Ultimate Pressure Zone
Valentine’s day puts immense pressure on today’s youth. From what to gift your partner to how to pleasure your partner (For all those who have shared Durex memes to your partner to give a hint *Naughty Wink*), the pressure is real.
A single day in a year is not worthy of a lifetime filled with regrets. If your partner decides to walk out for not getting a gift worthy of an Instagram Story, well maybe, you are better off without such a person. Like ‘Voting is your right’, saying ‘No’ is your double right (Irrespective of gender). And have patience, while you practice “Payye Thinnal Panayum Thinnam“.
I end my Valentine’s Day takeaway by quoting the Bible (Oh no no, I am not preaching here. I randomly found this on Google and thought it would fit in perfectly. Give it a glance and thank me later *Proud Smile*)
“Love is patient and kind;
love does not envy or boast;
it is not arrogant or rude.
It does not insist on its own way;
it is not irritable or resentful;
it does not rejoice at wrongdoing,
but rejoices with the truth.”
– Scripture. 1 Corinthians 13:4–8a
