Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently announced and interacted with the winners of the Rashtriya Bal Puraskar award. This award is given to children in India who have excelled in innovation, social science, education, sports, arts and culture and for displaying acts of bravery. Master Devi Prasad of Sreelakshi Nilayam from Kerala was among the 29 children who were conferred with the award. This is a great achievement as he was the only Malayali on the list.
Master Devi Prasad of Sreelakshi Nilayam bagged the Rashtriya Bal Puraskar award in the art and cultural category for his percussion abilities as a Mridangam player. The ceremony was hosted online spearheaded by Narendra Modi. Master Devi Prasad received the award from the District Collector VR Premkumar. He also won a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh.

As for his education, he is currently in the 9th standard, doing his schooling in St. Joseph English Medium School, Puthanangadi. Believe it or not, Devi Prasad started playing the Mridangam at the age of seven. His father Deepesh is a well-known percussionist and works as a clerk in Thirumandhamkunnu Devaswom. His mother Praseetha, on the other hand, is a teacher at Poopalam Al Fadak English Medium School.
Devi Prasad was proud to have been in the presence of talented individuals his age and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
