Visual artist Vimal Chandran and cinematographer Sharan Velayudhan crafted a short film, called The Meeting Place, of a Lamborghini interacting with the transcendental nature of Kerala. It’s a beautiful amalgamation of speed keeping up with the slow-paced environment that Kerala is known for.
The film was created as a part of Vimal Chandran’s art project with Lamborghini – “With Italy, For Italy” – to showcase the deferential time perspectives of Kerala alongside a Lamborghini Huracán EVO. For the uninitiated, “With Italy, For Italy” is a photographic project established by Lamborghini, which has been extended to the APAC region. Vimal’s project was originally meant to be a series of photographs, but Vimal also wanted to capture the whole essence of the idea in a film.

Vimal, on the ideation of the film, shared, “Lamborghini India asked me to create art, inspired by their cars and the local culture of the region. I came up with the concept of creating a meeting place for the past and the future. The idea was to portray the car as a futuristic object, trying to interact with the mystic atmosphere of the village which runs on a different time.” He wanted to capture memories of his childhood that involved folklore, traditions, art and culture and create a symbiotic relationship of it with the Lamborghini Huracán EVO. The film was, therefore, shot in Pattambi in Palakkad district, a place close to Vimal’s heart.
What’s interesting is that Vimal wanted to bring in Kerala’s historical relationship with other continents in this film, in addition to merging its cultural origins. “For this project I chose my native place Kerala because of Muziris Port, based in Kerala, had trade connections with over 31 countries from different continents including regions in Europe like Italy, dating all the way back to 1st century BC or even further beyond,” Vimal further added.
