If you are someone who likes to ‘Netflix and chill’, you would know that Sacred Games Season 2 was released on the 15th of August 2019. This crime thriller is immensely popular all over the world and has some iconic characters, like Ganesh Gaitonde (played by Nawazuddin Siddiqui) and Sulaiman Isa (played by Saurabh Sachdeva), modelled around real-life gangsters.
As the rivalry between the gangsters heats up in Season 2, Gaitonde is given Isa’s phone number by an Indian Intelligence agent. The makers of the series accidentally provided a real phone number that is shown partially on-screen and fully in subtitles. This is when things started going wrong for Kunhabdulla CM. Kunhabdulla, who is from Kasaragod and works in Sharjah, started receiving calls from around the world. He has been receiving around 5 calls every hour.
Kunhabdulla, who has not heard of Sacred Games as his work schedule keeps him busy from 8 AM to 7 PM, is reported to have said that his biggest fear is that he would be detained at the airport and questioned over possible mistaken identity. He has approached the telephone operator’s office to report this and is even thinking of cancelling the number.
Shortly after this was brought to their attention, Netflix apologised and removed the number from subtitles. We hope that Netflix learns from this error and does not cause such collateral damage in the future.
