V.P. Khalid, also referred to by the stage name Cochin Nagesh, passed away on Friday, June 24 after suffering a cardiac arrest during a film shoot at Vaikom. He was a senior theatre, television and film artist who was a familiar face to the Malayali households. He rose to fame after the success of the satirical comedy show Marimayam which aired on Mazhavil Manorama.
Khalid (70) was shooting for a Jude Antony directorial in Vaikom when he had a cardiac arrest. He was found lying on the floor of the restroom.

V.P. Khalid began his journey in art as a cycle stunt performer. Later, he began performing in plays and serials. He was widely noticed and appreciated for his character of “Sumeshettan” in the show Marimayam. His childish behaviour, goofy expressions and amazing comedic timing struck a chord with the masses.
He is a native of Chullikal, Fort Kochi. He is survived by his three sons who are prominent technicians in the Malayalam film industry – Cinematographers Shyju Khalid, Jimshi Khalid and director Khalid Rahman.
