Kindi Awards: Honouring Mollywood’s Cinematic Under-achievements Of The Decade – Part 2

Here’s Part 2!

Youth Icon of the Decade: Omar Lulu

Is there anyone else who has so perfectly portrayed youth? The scene in Chunkzz (2017) where Honey Rose keeps her hand next to Balu Varghese’s, and tells him, “Nammade colour kando? Enthengilum match ondo?” So relatable! With Oru Adaar Love (2019) he takes us back to good ol’ school days as well: When the guy’d ask the girl to turn the opposite direction and when she turned back he’d be inching closer for a kiss? Daamn. This man knows, wait, this man IS the pulse of the youth.

Rahul Dravid Award for Consistency: Biju Menon

For playing Vellimoonga in every film after Vellimoonga. Between Vellimoonga, Swarna Kaduva and Marubhoomiyile Aana, the only tangible change I see is the change of animal in the title.

Variety Peril Mathrame Ullu Award: Kunchako Boban

For Kuttanadan Marpappa (2018), Thattampurath Achyuthan (2018), Allu Ramendran (2019), Shikkari Shambhu (2018), Valliyum Thetti Pulliyum Thetti (2016) [Script-Selectionum Nallonam Thetti]…If you’re really interested, go read his filmography on Wikipedia. Filled with intriguing work..sorry, names.

Kunjuvinte Thattukadayile Kappayum Muttayum Pole Oru Evergreen Hit Combo: Jayaram and Kannan Thamarakkulam

It is remarkable that with every film this duo has ventured into a new genre, and reached a new low. Thinkal Muthal Velli Vare (2015), Aadupuliyattam (2016), Achayans (2017) and Pattabhiraman (2019)… After seeing their body of work, Malayalis had only one question: Where the hell were they in 2018?!

Opportunist Nanma Award: Jayasurya

For promptly turning up on all channels two days before the release of his films and being a total ‘punyalan’. And also for being a walking-talking diarrhea of goodness in films like Punyalan Agarbathis (2013), Punyalan Pvt. Ltd. (2017), Su Su Sudhi Vatmeekam (2015), Captain (2018) and Njan Marykutty (2018).

Overcorrection Award: Mammootty for Masterpiece (2017)

For saying “I respect women” 200 times. But what he didn’t foresee was that he disrespected the time of not only the women but also of the few men who stepped in to watch Masterpiece!

Krik Lazarus Award for Method Acting: Mohanlal for Ittymani: Made in China (2019)

Surprised? Well, you might have thought that the face makeover he underwent (bo *cough* tox) was for Odiyan (2018), but in reality, it was done keeping Ittymani’s flashback portions in mind, to make his eyes seem small enough as the Chinese father of Ittymani.

The ‘Tat Tvam Asi’ Award: Prithviraj

For being the conflict as well as the resolution for all of his films, since the success of Mumbai Police (2013).

Dhey Vannu Dhaa Poyi Award: Suresh Gopi’s political career

Sureshetta, if you’re reading this, I just want to say that Kerala’s map looks really weird with that void since you ‘took’ the Thrissur piece and ran away. Please put it back there if you’re done playing with it?

Junior Mandrake Award: Kalidas Jayaram

For selectively picking and choosing shitty films after his debut – Mr and Mrs Rowdy (2019), Argentina Fans Kaattoorkadavu (2019), Happy Sardar (2019). Take this: Aishwarya Lekshmi was being heralded as the “Lucky Charm” for being part of back-to-back successes UNTIL she did Argentina Fans Kaattoorkadavu (2019) with this guy. And then her next release was Brother’s Day (2019). Need we say more?

‘Major’ Redundancy Award: Major Ravi

For his eternal love with the battleground. 1971: Beyond Borders (2017) was a meta-name where he subtly admitted that his implementation of the same terrain was going beyond the borders of human tolerance.

Urdu Excellence Award: Shane Nigam for Kismath (2016) & Ishq (2019)

With Qurbani and Qalb coming our soon, I’m guessing he has this Qitab full of Urdu lavzein and is crossing each word out one film at a time.

Padavalanga Award of the Decade: Jeethu Joseph

The director of Drishyam (2013), Life of Josutty (2015), Oozham (2017) and Mr and Mrs Rowdy (2019) IN THAT ORDER. Because well, valarcha thaazhottanu (there’s growth, but it’s downward).

And with that we come to the end of Kindi Awards for this decade! Did we miss out on anything? Let us know in the comments section.
