Deepamol from Kerala’s Kottayam has had a driving career spanning decades. She has worked as a driving school instructor, taxi driver, and tipper lorry driver over the past few years. In fact, in 2021, she took a solo bike trip from Kottayam to Ladakh in 16 days. The adventure junkie in her gave her the opportunity to shine brighter by becoming Kerala’s first woman ambulance driver.
During the inauguration, Minister for Health and Women and Child Development Veena George handed over the key of an ambulance to Deepamol. She commented, “Deepamol is an inspiration to all. I extend all my wishes to her during the occasion.” This ambulance is part of the health department’s trauma care project KANIV-108. Veena George also stated that they would be appointing more women ambulance drivers in every district soon.
