Kerala Design House Takes Center Stage At The Met Gala 2023

The Met Gala is one of the most significant events in the fashion calendar, and it’s always exciting to see what the celebrities wear on the red carpet. However, the 2023 Met Gala event was even more special because the red carpet itself was made in India by a Kerala design house.

The carpet used for the Met Gala 2023 was designed by Neytt by Extraweave, a Kerala-based design firm dealing in weaving. The 6960 square meter carpet comprised 58 rolls of 30×4 meters a piece and reportedly took 60 days to make. Additionally, they were hand-painted by painters in the United States before being installed at the Met Gala.

This design house from Kerala shared various stories on their official Instagram page complimenting them for the carpet. “A proud moment for our team to provide carpets to the Met Gala for the second time in a row,” they wrote, along with a picture of the carpet at the gala.

The carpet was in shades of blue and crimson over an off-white base, inspired by the serpentine lines or the “lines of beauty”. This was a nod to the year’s theme, Karl Lagerfeld: A Line Of Beauty, which celebrated the full work and life of Karl Lagerfeld. The S-shaped lines reflected the popular hypothesis as a salute to the year’s theme, which is why Raul Avila, the event planner, drew inspiration from the same.

This is not the first time the Indian brand has collaborated with the prestigious Met Gala. It’s the second time in a row that they’ve provided the carpets for the event. The Indian touch to the event didn’t stop there, with Alia Bhatt walking the red carpet at MET Gala for the first time, making it a proud moment for the country.

Overall, it’s incredible to see an Indian design house being given such a massive platform at the Met Gala, and we can’t wait to see what they come up with next year. It shows that India has a wealth of creative talent that deserves to be showcased on the world stage.
