Filmmaker Naseef Yusuf Izuddin’s upcoming movie Irul, starring Fahadh Faasil, Soubin Shahir and Darshana Rajendran, “is a thriller with only three characters”. Sounds interesting, right? Wait till you watch the trailer of Irul, my friend. It gets even more spine-chilling, and mysterious every second of the way.
One of the producers and editor of the film, Shameer Muhammad, is the man behind this amazing trailer cut. His Irul first trailer cut will leave you wanting to know more. The eerie score of the trailer is by the composer of the film, Sreerag Saji.

Irul is Naseef Yusuf Izuddin’s directional debut and his first venture into Malayalam cinema. It is jointly produced by Anto Joseph Film Company and Plan J Studios. Naseef on working with the actors, said in an interview with TOI, “It was amazing. Once they caught the character, my job became easy. I just had to tell them the scene and dialogues, and they took over. Fahadh and Soubin, having worked together for so many years, are in sync. Me being a first-time filmmaker, it was a great learning experience on how they work.”
Fahadh Faasil, Soubin Shahir and Darshana Rajendran play central characters in the movie, each having an important role to play in the dynamics of the movie.
Here’s our thoughts about the Irul trailer.
Fahad and Darshana are a couple, and they are in Fahad’s ancestral home (he shows Darshana a picture of his mother, pointing at a framed photo on the wall). According to the trailer, the house was inhabited by someone who killed six women, as per Fahad. But he gets corrected by Soubin who mentions that five women were killed, which add to the mysterious element of the movie’s plot. As a viewer, we question if there was a sixth murder and if Soubin is related to it somehow. It’s safe to assume that Soubin is a novelist who is called by Fahad (or happens to be there stranded as the couple) to know more about the murderer.
But it looks like Soubin has more to do with this case than just writing this novel. Does he have a personal connection with the case? But then again, a movie with Fahad in it would have a dark twist owing to the thrilling element of the plot. We also see Darshana as the neutral character, but then again, we do know that she has a pivotal role in the movie. All in all, anyone could be a bad person.
There’s a dead body in the basement. Is that the sixth murder? Who among the three of them is the murderer? The movie has been promoted with a plot involving just three characters. But is there a fourth one? Questions worth thinking about!
We can expect the movie to brace our Netflix screens on 2nd April 2021. Meanwhile, watch the Irul trailer below.
