Kerala Arts & Crafts Village (KACV), located at Vellar near Kovalam, is one of the State’s initiatives to promote art, culture, and heritage in a gender-friendly campus, an architectural beauty in itself. To celebrate International Women’s Day on the 8th of March, KACV has planned to organise ‘Wow Women Week’, women-focused week-long events that celebrate the achievement of women across fields. The 7-day cultural and art affair will see a variety of programs starting from music to theatre.

The Wow Women Week is a one-of-a-kind mega-event that’s being hosted for the first time in Kerala. It has been inspired by the ‘Wow-Women of the World’ campaign in the US. The event will grace the presence of well-known names such as Sithara Krishnakumar, Sayonara Philip, Monisa Nayak, Pushpalatha and Arya Dayal. It’s going to be a week filled with musical events, live painting talent showcase, promotion of traditional art forms and what not – a cultural fest of sorts.
Sreeprasad T U, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of KACV, shared, “We aim to create a perfect eco-system to promote art and crafts. The Village should be an ideal and inclusive destination for everyone. In February, an event was conducted during Valentine’s Day aiming to promote gender equity. Seventy per cent of the people working at the Village are women and we want to celebrate their presence on this occasion.” He further added, “We will be organising this event every year. Next year we will scale up the event to a global level.”
If you want to be a part of this one-week event, all you have to do is pay an entry fee. Surprisingly, despite COVID and lack of tourism, KACV welcomes around 100 guests per day. So the event is most likely going to garner more presence of the general public to celebrate women like never before.
