Kerala Police has unearthed a ‘couple swap racket’ while investigating a complaint from a Changanassery resident. The couple-swapping network has unearthed a different kind of sex racket that has opened up a new line of investigation.
A lady from Changanassery filed a complaint stating that her husband was forcing her into an unnatural relationship by swapping her with another man. It was during the investigation that the Kerala police found out about the couple-swapping network online.
The investigation has led to the arrest of 7 people in Karukachal, Kottayam. The 7 who have been arrested belong to three districts – Alappuzha, Kottayam, and Ernakulam. The police have said that 25 people are under surveillance.
The racket operated via Messenger and Telegram groups called Couple Meet Kerala. Thousands of couples are said to be part of this group which is said to include doctors and government officials. Reportedly, couples are exchanged on a large scale via this group, and large sums of money are involved in certain instances.
The police investigation reported that unmarried people were part of this group and that wives were being exchanged for money with these people.
According to police reports, there is a huge racket behind the operation and has links all over Kerala. Given the massive scale of this operation, the police stated that they will have to continue their investigation to uncover its true scale and help people who might victims of this racket.
Back in 2019, four people were arrested in Kayamkulam in a similar situation. The wife of one of the arrested persons had alleged that her husband forced her to sleep with other men. The mode of communication was through ShareChat. Though cases of similar nature have caught the police’s attention, the lack of complaints left them on a loose end. Until now.
