Celebrating The Coconuts Of Instagram That Malayalis Love

Today is World Coconut Day! Kerala and coconuts are synonymous with each other so we had to do something. As we banged our heads on fallen coconuts, a quirky idea popped up. We’re celebrating the coconuts of Instagram. We know what you’re thinking – What the hell are they talking about? Read on to know.

Inverted Coconut

Meet the American with the heart of a Malayali, Aparna. She did her schooling in Kollam, and lived most of her teenage years in the Amritapuri Ashram. That’s how she knows how to speak Malayalam better than the rest of us. On Instagram, she calls herself Inverted Coconut because she is white on the outside, but a Malayali inside. Aparna has embraced the Malayali within her, and her Instagram content is proof of it.

Coconut Weddings

Looking for an upscale wedding photography company? Well, Coconut Weddings, located in Palarivattom Kerala should be your go-to. A scroll through their ‘gram will make you go ‘woah’. They capture every moment of your special day so that you can cherish it later. So if you’re in search of an intimate and artistic aesthetic in your pictures, you know where to go.

Coconut Stories

Coconut Stories is an online store that has merchandise that oozes a Kerala vibe. They capture the eccentricities of Kerala and portray them in their products. Right from coffee mugs, t-shirts, clocks to greeting cards and photo frames, they bring out Kerala’s essence in a unique way. Do check them out.

Waatcoconut

If you don’t know who Manu S Pillai is by now, you need to get a nice chooral vadi whacking. Of course, he is one of the best coconuts on Instagram (if you know, you know). The author of well-known books such as The Ivory Throne, The Courtesan, Mahatma & Italian Brahmin, and Rebel Sultans has won tons of accolades. Manu is one such literary figure whose work you cannot miss out on. He is indeed an inspiration.

bunchofcoconutcomics

Say hello to Anandu Prasad, the founder of @bunchofcoconutcomics. He creates a bunch of “stupid mallu puns, my life, and a bit of politics”. Based out of Trivandrum, Anandu is an architecture student who has taken up the job of cracking us up with his pun-filled comics. Clearly, we’re in love with the dude.

Karikku

The name needs no explanation. You love them, we love them, the whole world loves them. End of story.

ThengaKola Media

Meet Kerala’s prominent troll group, ThengaKola Media. The internet is full of trolls, but some of them are way better. This particular group is definitely one of them. They show the good, the bad, and the ugly side of internet trolling, particularly about Malayalis and Kerala. You’ll definitely roll on the floor laughing after going through their content.

Thenga

We found this amazing brand called Thenga that creates sustainable, ethical, and 100% eco-friendly products made using thenga. All the products are handmade by artisans across South India, and you can get them delivered right to your doorstep. They sell thenga tiles, thenga containers, wine/shot glasses, and utensils. How cool, right?

Karikku Palakkad

A hidden gem in Yakkara, Palakkad, we would say. This place serves a wide range of faloodas, shakes, smoothies and juices. As the name suggests, the theme of the shop is inspired by tender coconut. You should try out their tender coconut juices that give the traditional taste of coconut water a modern twist. They’re also available on Swiggy for online delivery and takeaway services.
