Best Achan Characters In Malayalam Cinema We Wished We Had In Real Life

The world has always been obsessed with mother-child bonds so much that the fathers were relegated to the position of mere economic supporters. However, fathers are the first superheroes for every child. A child knows that no matter what they get entangled in, their father will take their side and fight for them.

Malayalam cinema has produced some phenomenal father characters. All of us saw some shades of our own fathers in them. These are our favourite father characters of all time.

Joseph from Mummy and Me – The New-gen Father

Joseph in Mummy & Me was an almost accurate portrayal of every new-gen father who is torn between a protective wife and a rebellious kid. There were two scenes in the movie that will always remain in our heart; one, where he tells his daughter that all loving husbands are seemingly henpecked and the other, where he tells his wife that kids are just visitors in our lives and we should not expect anything back from them.  Small details in the movie like him being stunned by the sound of the constant banging of the door by his daughter or him supporting his daughter’s choice of dressing, bought a smile to everyone’s face because it was relatable. It’s kind of like an everyday happening in almost every household.

Thirumuttathu Kochuthoma from Veendum Chila Veetukaryangal– The Friendly Father

Thilakan is an actor known for his perfection and Veendum Chila Veetukaryangal was no different. Thirumuttathu Kochuthoma from Veendum Chila Veetukaryangal is everybody’s dream father- he supports his son’s passion for acting, saves him from marriage proposals brought by relatives and to top it all, he is super rich (just saying).

However, when his son married a woman of a lower stature, Kochuthoma turned into an angry tyrant from a super cool father. To teach his father a lesson, his son started working hard and started to make a comfortable living for himself, unperturbed by his father’s richness. Towards the end of the movie, we get to know that it was Kochuthoma’s plan all along to teach his son the value of hard work.

Anjooran from Godfather – The Iron Fisted Father

One of the most popular and longest-running Malayalam movies is also credited with giving an ever-memorable father character. N.N Pillai’s Anjooran is permanently etched in every Malayalee’s mind. Even the thought of his voice would send shivers down our spines.

Anjooran had vowed to destroy the Annapara family, as he held them responsible for his wife’s death. He bought up his four sons by himself, feeding them revenge and vowing them to celibacy. The story beautifully portrays the humorous events that lead to his youngest son marrying his ladylove from the Annapara family. As the plot unfolds, we see another side of Anjooran when he turns against his son. However, towards the end of the movie, Anjooran proves that no revenge is above the love for his kids.

Georgekutty from Drishyam- The Caring Father

Drishyam was one of the biggest blockbusters Malayalam cinema has seen till date. This edge-of-the-seat thriller kept our heartbeats spiked with every passing moment, and we heaved a sigh of relief when we got to know that Georgekutty and his family was safe forever. Apart from the super-twisty climax, what stayed with us after watching this movie was Georgekutty’s love for his family.

A cable operator by profession, Georgekutty didn’t leave a page unturned to save his family from utter destruction. Towards the end of the movie, Georgekutty was found saying that his family was his biggest asset and when an uninvited guest created trouble in his family, he did not hesitate to send him away. This dialogue is packed with care, love, and warmth of an ever-protective father.
