Aju Mohan’s ചായ (Tea) Animation Shows Us That Malayalis Are All Over World

The one joke you’ll find Malayalis cracking is that no matter where you go or which part of the world you are in, you’re bound to meet at least one Malayali. It’s a fact. Aju Mohan, who goes by the name @gebonions on Instagram, created a ചായ (Tea) animation out of the joke and dedicated it to all the Malayali NRIs around the world.

Aju Mohan is a well-known animator and has worked in many Hollywood animated movies. Most of his quirk and style of animation can be seen by scrolling through his Instagram page. In ചായ (Tea), Aju manages to capture the rustic ambience of a chayakada with its age-old wooden interiors, an old song playing in the background, a bunch of uzhunuvadas placed inside glass containers, and of course, the classic chaya-making vessel. We also see the chaya maker who is in his kalli mundu and dirty baniyan tied around his head, pouring the chaya from a great height to mix it up properly.

He serves to, wait for it, an astronaut. We immediately get a gist of what Aju Mohan is trying to put forth in his ചായ (Tea) animation.

It’s a short animation, and totally worth your time. He perfectly portrays the saying “Chandranil polum malayalide chaayakada kaanum.” in the most soulful way possible. Beautifully done, and describes the Malayali within us in a great way. Have a look!
