The lovely and popular song ‘ Madaprave vaa’ will surely be one of the first things that comes to mind when you think of Kamal Haasan’s Malayalam movies. The legendary actor was an integral part of Malayalam cinema in the 80s and 90s. Unfortunately, he only appeared in a handful of Malayalam movies over the last two decades. Still, he has left a tremendous mark on the Malayalam cinema industry.
As the legendary actor turns 65, let us reflect back on some of the best Malayalam movies he has acted in.
Madanolsavam
We kick off the list with Madanolsavam, which is arguably the most popular Malayalam movie featuring Kamal Haasan. Raju ( Kamal) falls in love with Elizabeth ( Zarina Wahab) and starts a life together. But Raju’ world comes crashing down when he learns that Elizabeth is sick.
Kanyakumari
K S Sethumathavan, who introduced Kamal to Mollywood as a child artist, was also the one who gave his first lead role in Malayalam with Kanyakumari. The film was penned by MT Vasudevan Nair. Kamal went on to win his first Filmfare award (Best Actor) for his work in Kanyakumari.
Eetta
The IV Sasi directorial Eetta was immensely popular among the audience not just for its story and acting, but also for the steamy scenes. The movie had an ensemble cast that included Madhu, Soman, Kamal Haasan, Seema, and Sheela. Kamal bagged in another Filmfare Award for his performance in this movie.
Daisy
Daisy is dubbed by many as one of the best romantic movies ever made in Malayalam. Kamal Haasan has an extended cameo in the teenage love drama which is sure to bring tears to your eyes. Kamal’s James was one of the best parts of the movie and the master effortlessly pulls in a captivating performance albeit with limited screen time.
Chanakyan
Chanakyan marks the first collaboration between Jayaram and Kamal, a pair we fell in love with and never got tired of seeing together. Chanakyan is an edge of the seat revenge thriller featuring stellar performances from Kamal, Jayaram, Thilakan, Urmila Matondkar, and Madhu.
