We’ve all heard of Bollywood’s inherent nepotistic behaviour, right? Well, if you’re a true Malayalam movie buff, you’d know that Mollywood is no less. Sure, you could say that compared to Bollywood, Mollywood’s nepotistic influence is less. The only difference is that in Mollywood, the so-called ‘star kids’ have proven themselves to be fit as actors, in every sense of the word. They may have had an easier entry into the Mollywood industry, but they had to work twice as hard to gain recognition among moviegoers.
We’re going to list down a bunch of star kids who happened to charm their way through their impeccable movies. Some of them are even famous than their own parents.
Vineeth Srinivasan
The singer/actor took Mollywood by a storm with his soothing voice and compelling performances. He has unrelentingly pushed himself despite missing the mark many times. In fact, the way he acts is nonplussed (in a good way) in ways you have to see to believe.
Kalidas Jayaram
Jayaram and Parvathy’s son sure seem to have won hearts all over Kerala, which I admit is impressive for his age. After all, he was born to be an actor. From being a child artist to turning into a superstar, Kalidas probably knew that his future lay in acting, which he displayed in the much-applauded movie Poomaram. That said, I am also quite impressed by the way he maintains his beard.
Pranav Mohanlal
Who wouldn’t know of Pranav? I mean, he’s the son of Megastar Mohanlal. Pranav, unlike other star kids, is yet to prove himself as an actor. Of course, he has acted in many movies as a child, but at the moment, he will have to show that he is worthy of a spot in the big Mollywood club. He does have some big shoes to fill.
Dulquer Salmaan
The heartthrob of Mollywood has a refreshing facade every time he appears on-screen. His bad-boy charisma coupled with his sophisticated sense of fashion is all the more reason to fall in love with him. Also, he’s found his way to Bollywood and that deserves some good applause. Dulquer is like a ray of sunshine who will put an end to all darkness. We’ve got to thank Mammootty’s genes for that.
Ann Augustine
Ann has never really made a mark in the industry. But she was someone we couldn’t keep our eyes away from. Her mesmerising beauty and strong acting was all it took to impress us. She has even bagged the Kerala State Award for Best Actress for the film Artist. We do hope to see her set the screen ablaze soon.
