The supervillain calendar, on the other hand, is a dedication to Malayalam cinema’s iconic villains such as Kottarakkara Sreedharan Nair in My Dear Kuttichathan, John Honayi, ​​Bhaskara Patelar, among others.

Rajisha is an upcoming artist who was able to hone her drawing skills during the lockdown. In 2021, she created a calendar celebrating the amazing singers of the Malayalam film industry. Her calendar illustrations include the likes of V Dakshinamoorthy, KJ Yesudas, Janaki Amma, Devarajan Master and more. She calls this the ‘Paattu Chembakangal’ calender.

Her 2022 calendar is dedicated to Malayalam authors called ‘Akshara Nakshatrangal’. It was launched by honourable speaker M.B. Rajesh. Apparently, it got sold out in a jiffy.

Indu Sathyendran

Conservation Architect and Designer, Indu is a multi-talented artist who seeks inspiration from everything around her. Indu runs a small business – ​​QUIRKYI by Niram Atelier –  that sells merchandise with illustrations inspired by Kerala. QUIRKYI’s latest launch is the 2022 calendar that she fondly calls the ‘Kerala Kala’ calendar. It is a celebration of the rich performing arts indigenous to Kerala such as Koodiyattam, Ottanthullal, Pulikali, Mohiniyattam, Kathakali, Theyyam etc. Each calendar comes with a  wooden stand handcrafted by local artisans that can be reused.

INTACH

The Palakkad Chapter of INTACH (Indian National Trust for Art & Cultural Heritage) has created a series of 2022 desk calendars themed on local heritage. According to their FB post, “It takes on 12 works of fiction; 10 in Malayalam and 2 in English, chosen for the range of moods and experiences they convey. These have been interpreted as illustrated montages with accompanying excerpts. Each month features one such work by a wonderful storyteller.” It’s the perfect 2022 gift for a Palakkadian.
