Love in the Time of Corona: A Kerala Love Story

One of the major breakthroughs of the lockdown was that many of us found the love of our lives. Believe it or not, despite people not being able to meet physically, they fell in love virtually. But there were some lucky few who met as strangers, fell in love, and even got married, all due to the lockdown because of Coronavirus. The story of this newlywed from Kerala is the perfect example of it.

58-year-old Rajan, who hails from Tiruchirappalli in Tamil Nadu, never really had a ‘personal life’ per se. He had sisters to look after, and would constantly be involved in bettering their lives, sacrificing his own. His work mainly consisted of helping out at eateries during the Sabarimala pilgrimage. Whatever he earned, he would send it to his sisters. Then Corona happened, and he found himself stuck in Kerala where he ended up staying in a care home,  Mahatma Janasevana Kendram, located in Adoor.

But little did he know that he would find love there.

In the care home, he made friends with 65-year-old Saraswathi who was unmarried. Ever since the death of her parents in 2018, she has been a resident at the care home. Over time, they started to share a liking towards each other, which turned serious.

Their love was received well by close friends, family, and Rajan’s sisters. The local community was involved in making their marriage a successful one. A local jeweller even provided jewellery for the bride. The people at Mahatma Janasevana Kendram gave one of the houses to the couple as a wedding gift. It is truly a memorable union.

Love has no age. Rajan and Saraswathi’s story proves it.
