This Onam, Dedicate Your Pookalams To Our Caring Nurses

Happy Onam everyone!

While we celebrate Onam this year, it is hard to forget that we are still in the midst of one of the biggest crises that our generation has faced so far. The fight against the Covid-19 virus rages on, and the vanguard of this fight – our healthcare professionals – are going to great lengths to keep us safe. Among these frontline healthcare professionals are nurses.

According to a WHO report “nurses trained in India form a significant portion of internationally educated nurses working overseas, second to nurses trained in the Philippines. It is estimated that over 30 per cent of nurses who studied in Kerala work in the UK or the US, with 15 per cent in Australia and 12 per cent in the Middle East.” And out of the 20 lakh nurses registered in the Indian Nursing Council, 18 lakh are from Kerala. Suffice to say that Kerala nurses are playing a major role in our fight against the pandemic.

In light of this, Parachute Advansed has urged everyone in Kerala to dedicate one special pookalam to nurses and write “Thank You Nurses” as a heartfelt message for these carers, below their pookalams. They have earnestly persuaded people to come together and celebrate these unsung carers, our nurses.

#ThankYouNurses is taking over the Social Media scene in Kerala with many prominent celebs and influencers sharing their #ThankYouNurses pookalams.

We reached out to Firose M B, and Emergency Staff Nurse in the Emergency Department of Sree Gokulam Medical College, Venjarammoodu to ask about his experience, the challenges

he has faced, and how he has been able to overcome them. We also asked him about the #ThankYouNurses campaign and here’s what he has to say:

As you can see, a small gesture makes a huge difference and raises the morale of nurses. So let’s take every opportunity to shower gratitude and love. Make this Onam a special one for our caring nurse. Keep your Onam small this year, maintain social distancing and celebrate with only the people who live with you. And while our valiant nurses sacrifice their Onam celebrations to keep us safe, let us dedicate our pookalams to them with #ThankYouNurses.
