12 Things Malayalis Are Really, Really Tired Of Hearing

As a Malayali myself, I’ve got to admit that I love ‘Mallu jokes’. You know, the ones where everyone stereotypes a Malayali for being a South Indian. Of course, we don’t take it at heart, but as the saying goes, the South remembers. Keep this in mind when you ask weird questions to Malayalis who will only roll their eyes when they hear of it. Speaking of which, in case you don’t know what ‘not’ to tell a Malayali, saddle up. I am listing them all down.

“You Don’t Look Like A Malayali”

“Where are my banana chips?”

“OMG, you watch Hollywood and Bollywood movies?”

“How is my Malayalee?”

“What’s the difference between a Malayali and a Madrasi?”

“Do you eat beef everyday?”

“You’re fair for a Malayali.”

“Don’t get me wrong, but how many relatives do you have in the Gulf?”

“You smell like coconut – just kidding!”

“I love Mallu music… Appadi podu, podu..Appadi podu kannale”

“You must be rich, no? I mean, the amount of gold you wear for your wedding must make you rich.”
