The trailer of Golam is out now and from the looks of it, we have yet another exciting mystery crime thriller prepping for release. Directed by debutant Samjad, the film features Ranjith Sajeev, Dileesh Pothan, Chinu Chandni, Sunny Wayne, Sidhique, and Alencier in lead roles. What an interesting premise – the boss is found dead in his office, and no one knows how he died. Malayalam cinema has had its share of whodunnits but great ones have always strayed away from the usual premise and come up with innovative settings. Golam is doing the same with an office setting. This provides a limited number of suspects, giving the creators the opportunity to lay out the pieces of the puzzle better; making the movie an immersive experience where the viewer is constantly trying to beat the protagonist in finding the culprit.
The trailer itself gives us bits and pieces of information. We’re told that the body and surroundings did not show signs of struggle, we’re introduced to Sunny Wayne’s character (who seems to be a partner or competitor), and we’re told that the CCTV cameras haven’t caught anything. All this probably points to an influential murderer and the trailer hints at Sunny Wayne’s character.
But hey, being an ardent crime thriller buff, we’re sure you’ve understood that it is probably a misdirection. So, with the limited information you’ve seen in the trailer, who do you think committed the crime?
Ranjith Sajeev plays the role of the investigating officer. Known for his roles in movies like Mike and Qalb, we see him in an entirely new look in the trailer of Golam, and it is interesting to see how he is experimenting and evolving as an artist.
Written by Praveen Viswanath and Samjad and produced by Uday Ramachandran, Golam has music composed by Aby Salvin Thomas and lyrics penned by Vinayak Sasikumar. Vijay is the cinematographer and Mahesh Bhuvanend has edited the film. Vishnu Govind has done the sound design and Vishnu Sujathan, the sound mixing. Pratheesh Krishna is the chief associate director, and Nimesh Tanur has handled art direction.
Colour grading was done by Srik Varier. Casting was done by Binoy Nambala, makeup by Ranjith Manaliparambil, Manjusha Radhakrishnan is the costume designer and Jinu P K is the Production Controller. Visual effects were created by Pictorial FX, and still photography by Jestin James. Bibin Xavier and Binosh Thankachan are finance controllers. YellowTooths and Tivity created the publicity designs. Dr. Sangeetha Janachandran (Stories Social) handles Marketing and Communication.
