There’s a new page that has spawned on Instagram and it has become the talk of the town! Cash Hunt (aka @cashunt.kochi) is a Kochi-based Instagram account that leaves currency notes in places around Kochi and thus, kicks off a treasure hunt. While there are other pages with the same name, this one appears to be the original and legitimate founder of the cash hunt movement in Kochi.
The cash drops are done at various locations in the city. With the video revealing just a few cryptic clues, participants have to kick their geographical bearings into high gear to figure out the location.

The admin of Cash Hunt, who chooses to remain anonymous, told us, “I started this as a project to entertain society, and the journey is far from over.” True to the admin’s vision, the page is definitely providing Kochikaar with a source of entertainment. If you check the highlights labelled “Cashed” on the page, you’ll catch a glimpse of the effort users have put in to find the location of the cash drop.
And oh, by the way, once a participant finds the money, they reply on the comments thread of the reel that kicked off the hunt with “Cashed”, and once the admin verifies, it is added to highlights.
While I was mildly surprised to see participants put in so much effort just for a few hundred bucks, it all started to make sense when the admin told me that the overarching aim is to get people to “take action, utilize their minds and bodies, and strive towards or create their goals.” In that light, the efforts of Cash Hunt are to give the participants of the cash hunts a common goal, stimulate their minds and go outdoors in an increasingly digital world.

“The awe of each reaction and the satisfaction of a successful pursuit is what drives me forward”, says the admin. Cash Hunt also went on to say that they avoid risky and/or dangerous locations to ensure the safety of the participants.

The admin of Cash Hunt restricts communications to addressing people collectively and aspires to lead a regular life devoid of excessive attention. As a closing note, the admin said, “This initiative is aimed at a good cause, and I hope it remains unchanged.”
The closing statement is especially relevant as many copycat pages have popped up on Instagram with the same DP and claim to be offshoots of this account in various cities.
